Digital Scriptorium II
Under a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, The New York Public
Library joins the Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Columbia University,
the Bancroft Library (University of California, Berkeley), the Huntington
Library and other manuscript repositories to contribute to the Digital
Scriptorium database and mount on its own website approximately 1,200
images documenting 200 medieval and Renaissance manuscripts from its Spencer
Collection and Manuscript Division, Humanities and Social Sciences Library.
The project utilizes an SGML-based model of encoding the manuscript descriptions
and prototypes a web-based union catalog of medieval manuscripts. Work
should be completed by April 2001.
