The texts:

The texts included in this electronic collection were converted to machine-readable form and encoded in Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), according to the Text Encoding Initiative Lite (TEI Lite) Document Type Definition (DTD). This follows current best practices in electronic text projects under development in leading academic and research institutions.

The illustrations:

Illustrations and graphics in the Library's collections were digitally scanned at a resolution equivalent to 300 dpi, and presented on the Web in 100 dpi versions in the thumbnails and full versions, in keeping with the limitations of computer monitors now available, and in order to make them faster to load.
