Written on border: "Aug. 1853" Printed on border: "The alboni is a very rich mantilla, suitable for opera, promenade, or carriage-dress. The one we present is composed of elaborate Chinese embroidery, wrought upon white poult de soie. It is cut in one piece, slightly gathered at the shoulder -- the back being ornamented with a hood of peculiar beauty, the mode of constructing which we must particularize : a square piece of silk, sufficiently large to extend round the back and a little in advance of each shoulder, is sewed upon the mantle." Includes additional text. Foxing on image. |
