Notes: Printed on border: "Here are some tricks to which the bulky but intelligent elephant has been trained. No. 1 is shamming death; Nos. 2, 3, 4 are busy with creditable feats of equilibrium. No. 5 goes through one of the most difficult performances attempted, namely, to walk on a rolling cylinder. No. 6 plays on a barrel organ, to the tune of which No. 7 dances on a tub. The two Nos. 8 indulge in a quiet see-saw, whilst the two Nos. 9 are busy replenishing the 'inner elephant.' No. 10 is no lover of the bottle, for he walks on ten of these placed in a row, a somewhat fragile pathway for an elephant."
