Printed on border: "Sir James Ogilvie Grant, eleventh Earl of Seafield, was born 18th April, 1876, and succeeded his father, who resided in New Zealand, and who held the title only six month (1999). The Ogilvies are an old Scots family, who were created Lords Ogilvie in 1616. The second lord was made Earl of Findlater, 1638, and the fourth earl, who filled a great many of the most important Crown offices in Scotland, was raised to the Earldom of Seafield in 1701. The Grant strain in the family is due to the fact thath the fourth Earl of Seafield was succeeded by his cousin, the chief of the Clan Grant. Four Earls of Seafield have died within the last fifteen years. The present peer is living in New Zealand with his mother, his brother, and three sisters. He comes of age in 1897. He will sit in the House of Lords as Lord Strathspey." "From a photo. by C. Martin, Oamaru, N.Z." "The Picture Magazine. 206." Written on border: "v 7 (1896)" |
