Before the days of easy and instant
photography, artists were often employed to record their impressions
of the ephemeral performing arts in graphic form. Indeed, the artist's
eye can sometimes convey the reality of a scene or moment better than
a mechanical reproduction of the event. Caricatures which exaggerate
salient features of a prominent actor, for example, present an immediate
picture of how that person's personality would shine through to the
beholder from the stage. |
